Teletherapy

Secure video sessions with the same licensed clinicians you would see in our Brooklyn office, from wherever you are in New York.

Teletherapy at Crown Counseling is the same therapy, delivered by video. You meet the same licensed clinician each week, on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, from a private space of your choosing anywhere in New York State. Most of what we do translates fully to video, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and couples work. This page explains how sessions work and who teletherapy suits. For coverage and copays, see our page on online therapy and insurance.

This may be a good fit if…

  • Anyone physically located in New York State
  • Busy schedules: lunch breaks, early mornings, evenings
  • Parents who can't easily get a sitter
  • Clients in rural or upstate NY with few local options
  • People with chronic illness, mobility, or anxiety barriers to leaving home
  • Anyone who simply prefers therapy from a familiar, private space

Same Therapy, Different Delivery

CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, couples therapy, and child therapy with parent involvement all work well by video. The relationship with your therapist is what carries the work, and that translates fully online.

How Sessions Work

You get a private link before each session. No downloads, no accounts. Sessions are 45 to 50 minutes, and longer for EMDR or couples work when needed. You'll need a quiet, private space, a reliable connection, and headphones.

EMDR & Trauma Work via Telehealth

We deliver the full EMDR protocol by video using on-screen bilateral stimulation, our own free online tools, or self-administered tapping, with the same preparation and pacing as in person.

Statewide Coverage

We see clients anywhere in New York State, from Brooklyn and Manhattan to Buffalo, Rochester, the Capital Region, the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and the North Country. New York licensing requires you to be physically in the state at session time.

Coverage and Copays

Every plan we are in-network with covers teletherapy the same way it covers in-person sessions. Copays, plans, and how we confirm your benefits are covered on a separate page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

For most concerns, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD, research finds teletherapy comparable to in-person care. What drives therapy is the relationship with your therapist, and that translates fully by video. Some situations still call for in-person work, and your therapist will say so.

Is teletherapy covered by insurance?

Yes. New York requires plans to cover telehealth the same way they cover in-person care, and every plan we are in-network with does. Plans, copays, and how we confirm your benefits are on our online therapy and insurance page.

Can I switch between video and in-person?

Yes, if your therapist sees clients in our Crown Heights office. Many clients mix the two. Tell your therapist what you need and they will plan sessions with you.

What if I'm traveling out of NY for a session?

New York licensing requires you to be physically in NY at session time. For short trips, we reschedule. If you're moving out of state long-term, we'll help you transfer to a licensed provider in your new state.

Do you offer texting or app-based therapy?

No. We offer live video sessions with the same licensed clinician each week. Text-only therapy is not how we practice.

How soon can I get started?

Most new clients are seen within 3–7 days. After you submit the intake form, our care coordinator calls within one business day to verify your insurance, answer questions, and book your first session at a time that works for you.
