Billing
Your Good Faith Estimate
If you are not using insurance, you have the right to know what therapy will cost before you begin. Here is how that works at Crown Counseling.
Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers must give clients who do not have insurance, or who choose not to use it, a written estimate of what their care will cost. This is called a Good Faith Estimate.
Most Crown Counseling clients use insurance, and for them we confirm the copay before the first session instead. If you are paying out of pocket, we prepare a Good Faith Estimate for you before you start, and again any time your treatment plan changes in a way that affects cost.
What the estimate includes
- Your name and date of birth
- The services expected, such as intake and weekly therapy sessions, with their billing codes
- The cost per session and the expected total for the period covered
- Our practice name, address, and tax ID
- A note that the estimate is based on what we know at the time and may change if your care changes
How to request one
Ask our office at any point, before or after you schedule. Call (718) 208-4780 or email Office@crowncounseling.com and say you would like a Good Faith Estimate. We send it in writing, and you can ask questions about it before your first session.
If a bill is higher than the estimate
If you are billed at least $400 more than your estimate, you can dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Start with us first, since most differences come from a change in the plan that we can explain or correct. For the federal process and more on your rights, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
