Anxiety Therapy

Evidence-based treatment for generalized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, and OCD, in person in Brooklyn or by telehealth across New York State.

Anxiety is treatable. Our licensed clinicians use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR to help you quiet the spiral, regulate your nervous system, and get back to the life you want.

This may be a good fit if you experience…

  • Constant worry, racing thoughts, or trouble sleeping
  • Panic attacks, chest tightness, or shortness of breath
  • Social anxiety, performance anxiety, or fear of judgment
  • Health anxiety or intrusive ‘what if’ thoughts
  • Burnout, perfectionism, or high-functioning anxiety

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety. Together we identify the thought-feeling-behavior loops keeping anxiety alive, test the beliefs driving them, and build practical skills you can use between sessions.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

For panic, phobias, social anxiety, and OCD, gradual, structured exposure is the gold standard. We build the ladder together, stay with each step until your nervous system updates, and your fear naturally drops.

EMDR for Anxiety with a Trauma Root

When anxiety traces back to a specific event, such as a medical scare, accident, public humiliation, or childhood experience, EMDR can reprocess the memory so it stops triggering present-day alarm. Our EMDRIA-trained clinicians offer this in-person or via telehealth.

Nervous-System & Mindfulness Skills

Anxiety lives in the body. We teach vagal-tone, breathwork, grounding, and mindfulness practices that work in the moment, at your desk, on the train, or before a meeting, so you have something better than ‘just breathe.’

The CBT Triangle

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. Change one and the others shift.

ThoughtsFeelingsBehaviors

Thoughts

‘I'm going to embarrass myself.’

Feelings

Anxiety, dread, racing heart.

Behaviors

Avoid the meeting, cancel plans.

CBT interrupts the loop at any corner, most often by testing the thought.

The Polyvagal Ladder

Trauma can lock the nervous system on a lower rung. Therapy teaches it the way back up.

Ventral Vagal

Sympathetic

Fight or flight, mobilized

Dorsal Vagal

Shutdown, freeze, collapse

Frequently Asked Questions

Which type of therapy works best for anxiety?

CBT and exposure-based therapies have the strongest evidence for anxiety disorders. For panic and OCD, ERP is first-line. When anxiety stems from a traumatic event, EMDR is often added. Your therapist will recommend the right blend in the first 1–2 sessions.

How long does anxiety therapy take?

It depends on the presentation. Courses of CBT for anxiety typically run 12–16 weekly sessions; longer-standing or trauma-rooted anxiety often takes longer. Your therapist sets a timeline with you after intake, and we review progress together as you go.

Do I need medication to treat anxiety?

Many people fully resolve anxiety with therapy alone. For severe cases, such as daily panic, debilitating OCD, or anxiety blocking sleep, a short course of medication can speed things up. We don't prescribe, but we'll coordinate with your physician or refer you to a trusted psychiatrist.

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes. Crown Counseling is in-network with Aetna, Cigna / Evernorth, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Anthem BCBS, Healthfirst, MetroPlus, Fidelis, Oxford / Oscar, Northwell Health, and Medicare. Many clients pay $0–$35 per session after benefits are verified. We confirm your specific copay before your first appointment.

Do you offer in-person and telehealth?

Both. In-person sessions take place at our Crown Heights, Brooklyn office (1398 Carroll St). Telehealth is available to anyone physically located in New York State on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

How soon can I get started?

Most new clients are seen within 3–7 days. After you submit the intake form, our care coordinator calls within one business day to verify your insurance, answer questions, and book your first session at a time that works for you.
