Men's Therapy

Therapy for men navigating stress, anger, relationships, fatherhood, substance use, or trauma, with a therapist who meets you where you are.

Men come to therapy for many reasons: a relationship under strain, anger that keeps getting the better of them, drinking or other habits that have grown, a career or identity that no longer fits, a loss, or something from the past that has never been addressed. Whatever brings you in, our therapists start with what matters to you and work at a pace that feels right. Some men want concrete goals and practical tools; others want space to think and talk things through. Most want some of both, and that is what we offer.

This may be a good fit if you experience…

  • Anger or irritability that is affecting home or work
  • Marriage or relationship strain, separation, or affair recovery
  • Drinking, pornography, gambling, or other habits you want to change
  • Career stress, burnout, or questions about direction and identity
  • Fatherhood, from becoming a parent to the pressures of raising kids
  • Grief, loss, or past experiences you have not spoken about

Your Goals Set the Agenda

We begin with what you want to be different. From there, your therapist works with you on clear goals and practical steps, and adjusts the approach as you go. Sessions are collaborative, and you decide how much to bring in and when.

Anger and Stress

Anger often sits on top of something else, such as stress, fear, hurt, or feeling stuck. We use CBT, somatic techniques, and Internal Family Systems to help you recognize what sets it off, settle your nervous system in the moment, and understand what is underneath it, so you can respond rather than react.

Substance Use and Compulsive Habits

Drinking, pornography, gambling, scrolling, or overworking can become ways of coping that start to cost more than they give. Using harm reduction, CBT, and IFS, we help you understand what the habit does for you, build alternatives, and decide what relationship with it you want going forward.

Trauma and the Past

Some men carry experiences they have never told anyone. EMDR and somatic approaches make it possible to work through trauma without recounting it in detail, and stabilization comes first, so you are never pushed past what you are ready for.

Relationships and Fatherhood

Partnership, co-parenting, and being a father each bring their own pressures. We help with communication, conflict, and repair, and with the questions about what kind of partner and parent you want to be, including patterns from your own upbringing that you would rather not repeat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request a male therapist?

Yes. We have several male clinicians, and we match you with the therapist you prefer. Some men specifically want a male therapist, some prefer a woman, and many have no preference; any of those is fine.

I've never been to therapy. How do I know whether it would help?

A reasonable test is whether the same thing keeps not working, whether that is a relationship, anger, drinking, or mood, and whether your own efforts to change it have stalled. Therapy is a structured way to work on exactly that. Course length is set with you, and we do not keep anyone in therapy longer than is useful.

Do I have to talk about feelings?

You talk about what you want to talk about. Many sessions are practical and focused on a specific problem. When emotions are part of the picture, your therapist will help you approach them in a way that feels manageable, not forced.

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes. Crown Counseling is in-network with Aetna, Cigna / Evernorth, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Anthem BCBS, Healthfirst, MetroPlus, Fidelis, Oxford / Oscar, Northwell Health, and Medicare. Many clients pay $0–$35 per session after benefits are verified. We confirm your specific copay before your first appointment.

Do you offer in-person and telehealth?

Both. In-person sessions take place at our Crown Heights, Brooklyn office (1398 Carroll St). Telehealth is available to anyone physically located in New York State on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

How soon can I get started?

Most new clients are seen within 3–7 days. After you submit the intake form, our care coordinator calls within one business day to verify your insurance, answer questions, and book your first session at a time that works for you.
